Election: President Jonathan And PDP Caucus In House Of Rep Met In Secret

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the House of Representatives met for hours on Sunday night in Abuja allegedly to “discus strategies” for the March 28 poll.

The meeting took place amid speculation and denials of a possible tenure extension request by Jonathan.

The House Majority Leader, Mulikat Akande-Adeola, led the lawmakers to the session, which also had her Deputy, Mr. Leo Ogor, and a number of other principal officers in attendance.

Lawmakers simply claimed that the meeting dwelt on matters of “collective interests” to the PDP and how it would win the forthcoming poll.

Efforts to reach Akande-Adeola for comments failed on Monday.

However, Ogor confirmed that there was a meeting but denied that tenure extension was mentioned at the session.

He said it was “ridiculous” to expect that a President who was “sure” of winning the election would be seeking for tenure extension.

Rather, Ogor insisted that the session was presided over by Jonathan as the “presidential flag bearer of the PDP for the March 28 election.”

Asked to name one of the issues of interest discussed, Ogor parried the question by telling our correspondent that “election winning strategies” dominated the meeting.

He said, “Look, Mr. President only yesterday (Sunday) said there would be nothing like tenure extension.

World Boxing Federation (WBF) Cruiserweight boxing champion, Bash Ali (OON), is currently cooling his heels at a Kuje, Abuja prison. The boxing legend confirmed this in a text message he sent to Daily Times on Sunday evening.

The terse text message reads thus: “The labour of our heroes shall not be in vain. I have been in Kuje Prison since Thursday without food and with tough criminals because I said ‘No’ to corruption at a Bank (name withheld). My court case is March 5. A revolution has started. Champ Bash Ali, OON.”

When our correspondent reached the boxer after several attempts on phone, he further revealed the genesis of his ordeal. “The Executive Director, Customer Services, of the bank invited me on Wednesday, but to my shock, he was not there, so he told me to wait.

“While waiting, the Managing Director of the Bank, came and ordered the security to beat us. The head of one of the LOC members of Bash Ali Guinness Book of World Records fight, was broken. It was from there we were taken to SARS and detained and now I’m at Kuje Prison,” the champ said with a tinge of regret.

Daily Times tried to reach Nigeria Police spokesman, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu on his mobile telephone, but he did not pick his calls. Also, a text message to his set was not responded to.

General Muhammadu Buhari

EXPOSED: What You Didn’t Know About Buhari’s “Secret” Meeting With Jonathan’s Allies In Paris

General Muhammadu Buhari

General Muhammadu Buhari

General Muhammadu Buhari, who is contesting for presidential seat in coming elections, reportedly secretly met with some supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan in Paris, PM news reports.

As it was reported earlier, General Buhari, who is running under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) left the country on Thursday morning, February 19th, formally to hold meetings with key members of the British political class and network with some global organizations.

But sources said he might have gone to Paris first to meet with some close loyalists of President Jonathan who are seeking assurance that they won’t be imprisoned by Buhari administration.

It was gathered that APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, two Nigerian former heads of state and a wealthy Lebanese family with wide business interests in Nigeria may have been part of the people brokering the deal in Paris during a meeting on Thursday night.

The meeting was organised by a foreign power in Nigeria that appears to have written off President Jonathan.

The discussions, it was gathered, are based on the fear in Jonathan’s circle that Buhari will try and convict all of the top people in the Jonathan government who are known to have stolen a lot of cash from the nation’s treasury.

It was learnt that Buhari and the top leadership of APC may be considering amnesty for some of them if he is eventually elected on 28 March.

The negotiations are mentioned to as the Brazillian model, a type of deal where the president offers amnesty and asks the thieves to bring home the money stolen and invest it in the economy.

General Muhamadu Buhari’s rally in Maiduguri, Borno state

Civilian Provides The Video Of Army Explosives and Violence Events On Buhari Rally Day In Maiduguri (The Soldiers Did Not Disclose The Truth, Watch Video)

On the day of opposition candidate General Muhamadu Buhari’s rally in Maiduguri, Borno state, there were some unusual and ultimately deadly events that have caused anxiety and anguish among concerned Nigerians. We believe the events of Monday the 16th February, 2015 that led to the death of as many as ten civilians must be independently investigated.

 Buhari rally

Buhari rally

According to the details provided to us from volunteer civilians; on the day of Buhari’s campaign, as a holiday had been announced in Borno state, the people around Umaru Shehu Hospital in Bullumkuttu apprehended a group of soldiers “attempting to smuggle arms under the cover of the Buhari rally,” and possibly to “create chaos.”

The soldiers did not disclose the true content of the two impounded vehicles that some civilian accounts say were maneuvering to join the General Buhari campaign train.

Upon inspection of the vehicles, the Civilian-JTF discovered that the vehicles were contained arms and explosives. According to video evidence obtained by, it was at the point where the Civilian-JTF discovered it was “ammunition,” and made the pronouncement, the army began to fire directly on the civilians, killing them.

The army has denied significant aspect of these details and in some releases, denied it in entirety. Contrary to the military’s claims as contained in some media reports, the bonfire was set by a new larger wave of youth after the initial civilians inspected the vehicles and were killed as shown in the video evidence, and not before and ‘leading to the murders.’

In lieu of this and the evidence now available, we will like an investigation into:

1, Why the Nigerian army would transport dangerous weaponry and explosives in a leased private vehicle in Borno war territory.

2, If indeed Nigerian military transport trucks had all broken down as contained in some media reports, we will like to know the protocol and if the Nigerian army permits the transport of such dangerous material in private vehicles.

3, While appreciating the elections-aggressive phase of the war against Boko Haram, at last embarked upon by the Nigerian army, we will like to know why this transport of dangerous artillery and explosives in private vehicles was scheduled for the day of General Buhari’s political rally in Maiduguri.

4, We will like to know exactly the full detail of the military escort for this consignment, to understand why Civilians could easily, twice subdue it. As reference, we have seen the escort for senator Ali Modu Sheriff in comparison which could not be subdued in similar fashion even by a large army.

5, We will like to know why the Civilians were directly fired at and not scared off with shots in the air.

6, We will like to know why the Civilians were fired at, at exactly the point where they discovered the true contents (ammunition) of the vehicles.

7, We would like to know why it has been reported that members of the army were engaging in unruly behavior across the town on the day of Buhari’s rally, impounding vehicles without cause and as some opined, attempting to instigate riots and violence.

8, Finally we request an account of all army vehicles able to ferry this type of load and for a full army budget allocation and spending audit to account for military expenditure and determine why the Nigerian army vehicles broke down ‘leading to the lease of private vehicles’ for suspicious transport of dangerous material.

Manchester City vs Arsenal

5 things we learnt from Manchester City vs Arsenal

Manchester City vs ArsenalWenger finally delivers a master class

Today is the day most Arsenal fans have been waiting for. When the Frenchman will tactically set up his men against a big team, to grab a result. Last season, the Gunners left themselves exposed and were hammered 6-3. Today, Wenger opted to control City and their waves of attack, while hitting them on fast breaks. It worked a great treat.

No Yaya, no party

The statistics are damning. When the big Ivorian doesn’t play, City hardly win. Gooners may be forgiven for feeling a tingle, as they saw Aguero and Silva on City’s team sheet, but at the end of the day, they missed the power and drive of Yaya Toure. Pellegrini must be praying for Cote d’Ivoire to exit the Africa Cup of Nations quickly.

Cazorla, the two-footed magician

What a time to hit form for the little Spaniard. The former Malaga man has been sensational for Arsenal in the past few games and he was magnificent today again. He expertly tucked away the penalty after Vincent Kompany fouled Nacho Monreal and then provided a pin=point free-kick for Olivier Giroud to seal the points in the second half. All that, with a certain Mesut Ozil watching from the bench.

What did you mean to say, Pellegrini?

So first, Pellegrini claims it was not a penalty. Then he turns around and says Kompany shouldn’t have barged into Monreal the way he did. I really don’t understand what the Chilean was on about. Whatever the case, Mike Dean – who Arsenal fans have been moaning about all week – pointed the spot.

It’s all going down at the Bridge

City’s next Premier League clash? Away to Chelsea. What a tasty tie this will be! Arsenal’s victory means the Premier League champions are now five points behind the Blues. They need to get a result against Jose Mourinho or else the title race might well and truly be over.

Afcon Cup

The 16 teams at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea will share a total of $10 million with the champions earning $1.5 million (1.3m euros, £990,000) the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said.

The beaten finalists will receive a million dollars with the other two semi-finalists taking home $750,000 each.

A further breakdown of the prize monies will see quarterfinalists each guaranteed $600,000.

The third-placed teams in each of the first round groups will pocket $500,000, while the bottom teams get $400,000 each.

This year’s tournament will open on Saturday in Bata after Equatorial Guinea accepted to stage it following the late withdrawal by Morocco over fears of fans from abroad spreading the Ebola Virus which has ravaged west Africa — Guinea are the only finalists to have been seriously affected — for more than a year.

Nigeria won the 2013 trophy in South Africa after they edged Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final — the Nigerians, though, failed to qualify for this edition.

Messi Lionel

Why I’m not moving to Chelsea – Messi

Messi Lionel

Four-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi has shot back angrily at rumours that he could leave Barcelona after clashing with coach Luis Enrique and the club’s board, AFP reports.

The Argentine was in top form with a goal and two assists as the Catalan giants ended and unsettling week off the field with a crucial 3-1 win over La Liga champions Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

“I have never demanded anything to ensure that I stay because I have never had any intention of leaving,” he told Barca TV after the match.

“I have heard it said that my dad has spoken to Chelsea or Manchester City. It is all lies.

“I have taken this chance to deny it so that everyone knows the truth.”

Messi had missed training last week Monday, citing a stomach bug, after being left on the bench by Enrique for last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Real Sociedad.

And he sent the rumour mill into overdrive later in the day by following Chelsea and two of their players Thibaut Courtois and Filipe Luis on social media site Instagram.

Sources in the Catalan press then claimed Messi had met with Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu in midweek to ask for the former Barca captain Enrique to be replaced as coach.

“I am grateful to be able to give my version of events,” he said.

“It hurts me because it comes from here, from Barcelona, from people that love the club, or say they do. It doesn’t come from Madrid like it has in the past.

“It is not good that they look for rivalry between Luis Enrique and I because there isn’t any,” Messi added.
